Help On The Way For Patrick Swayze

Patrick Swayze has been catching some heat for being photographed smoking just days after news broke of him having terminal cancer. But there might be help for him on the horizon.

A team of British surgeons from the Royal Free Hospital in London want to perform a possibly life-saving surgery on Swayze. They think he's a great candidate for a radical new medical technique that involves reworking a patient's veins. Performed for the first time in December, the surgery is expected to save hundreds of lives per year.

I’m all for saving lives however Swayze was photographed smoking just days after news broke that he suffered from terminal cancer. I hope that if he goes through with the surgery, he will cease all activity that may have contributed to his cancer in the first place.

Patrick Swayze Diagnosed With Pancreatic Cancer

Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer, his publicist has confirmed stating, "Actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is currently undergoing treatment." Patrick's physician, Dr. George Fisher states, “Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far. All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic.”

It had been reported earlier by the National Enquirer, who broke the sad news first, that Swayze was diagnosed a month ago, but the cancer had already spread to other parts of his body - making his chances of survival slim. The average life expectancy of someone diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas is six to nine months, with only 4 percent of patients living more than five years.

Patrick Swayze was one of the leading male actors of the ‘80’s and early ‘90’s earning his claim to fame in the movies Dirty Dancing, Ghost, Roadhouse and Red Dawn. Patrick recently wrapped filming on the A&E TV pilot The Beast.

A&E released the follwin statement: "A&E recently completed a pilot with Patrick Swayze called The Beast, which is in contention to become one of the new drama series on the network. However, at this time all of our thoughts are solely with Patrick and his family. We are all wishing for a speedy recovery to a truly gifted actor."
